5 Nourishing Grab and Go Foods for the New Mom in Your Life

I knew that as soon as my daughter had her baby, I wanted to stock her fridge with healthy grab-and-go options. When I thought back to my own experience as a new mom, this was something that was done for me, and I remember being incredibly grateful.

When you are running on little sleep, recovering from childbirth, and adjusting to life with a newborn, having nourishing foods that are ready to eat or can be enjoyed within minutes is one less thing to think about. Sometimes the smallest acts of support make the biggest difference.

Today, I am sharing five of the things I made for my daughter to help make those early weeks a little easier: fresh-picked strawberries washed and sliced, lactation bites (which have quickly become her weekly request!), chicken salad, egg bites, and chia pudding. I will share exactly how I make each one below. The best part is they are all simple, easy recipes.

If there is a new mom in your life, consider making a few of these for her. Instead of saying, "Let me know if you need anything," you can provide support she may not have even thought to ask for. Speaking from experience, as someone who once received this kind of help as a new mom and now has the opportunity to do the same for my own daughter, I can tell you it will be deeply appreciated.

I do not know about you, but I am not always the best at asking for help. However, I will gladly accept it when it is offered without being requested. Maybe you can relate, maybe you cannot, but either way, I hope whoever receives these recipes feels loved, supported, and grateful that someone took the time to make life just a little easier during such a special season.

And one more thing, all of the recipes below are gluten-free.

Southern BBQ Chicken Salad:

  • 6 large celery stalks

  • 1 red onion

  • 1/2 cup Avocado Mayo (may need more if the chicken breast are large)

  • 3-4 chicken breast

  • 1/2 container of Organic Chicken Broth

  • 1/2 cup BBQ Sauce (make sure there are no seed oils, syrups, artificial flavors, high in added sugar)

Lets make this. I place the chicken broth then chicken breast in a crock pit for 3 hours on high. Once that cooked I use a hand mixer to shred the chicken. Once the chicken is cooled I add the mayo and bbq sauce. I stir it well then dice up the onions and celery. I add those to the bowl then mix well and place in a glass container. This is the crock pot I absolutely love: https://amzn.to/4emNMfW

Lactation Bites

Mix all of the ingredients together roll into a ball (makes around 16-18) Latation bites help support milk supply. The Brewers Yeast Powder is rich in essential nutrients such as B vitamins, protein, iron, selenium and chromium.

Fresh Strawberries or any fresh in season fruit would be great:

Locally picked organic berries then washed and sliced. It can be enjoyed with plain greek yogurt, with a little honey mixed in. You can also add in a bag of gluten free organic granola to your goodie box.

Egg Bites

  • 12 pasture raised eggs

  • 1 red or orange organic pepper

  • 1/2 cup shred your own cheese

  • 4 slices of bacon cooked

Let's make these: while you are cooking the bacon, shred the cheese, dice the pepper and then whisk all the eggs in a bowl. Spray avocado oil or coconut oil in a muffin tin or use non toxic liners. Fill all 12 cups with the whisked eggs. Then add crumbled up pieces of bacon and peppers to each cup followed by sprinkling cheese on each one. Bake at 350 for 18 minutes. Place in large glass container.

Chocolate Strawberry Chia Pudding:

(makes 3 servings)

  • 1 1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut Malk milk

  • 3 pitted large organic dates (pit remove)

  • 3 tablespoons of organic chia seeds

  • 3 tablespoons of organic peanut butter

  • 2 tablespoons of organic cacao powder

  • unsweetened coconut flakes

  • pinch of salt

  • 1 cup of organic strawberries sliced

Put everything in the blender minus the coconut flakes and berries. Blend together for one minute. Pour into 3 glass jars. I love these ones: then top with the coconut and berries. Store in the fridge. They need to set for 24 hours prior to eating. Here are the glass jars I love to use for these: https://amzn.to/4vl1CHe

If you need containers to store everything in these ones are great:

Put on your favorite music and enjoy making these all with love for the new mom in your life!
