How To Get The Weight Off For Good

With everything on the market today, it can be really difficult to find the best way for us to lose weight. We tend to have the mindset that if we are skinny we are happy, but after working with hundreds of clients & changing my own lifestyle after many attempts along with failures I want to help you be successful and feel the best you have ever felt in your own skin. There are some very important questions we tend NOT to ask ourselves when we are ready to lose weight and I know this all too well because for years I neglected to ask myself these things:  Is this something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life?  Is this an example I would want my children to follow?  Is this safe?  What are the long term effects?  Will this help me retain the results I achieve?   These are all the questions I seemed to neglect for years because quite honestly when I was ready to lose weight, I just wanted to know what was the quickest and easiest way to do so.  I was never asking myself those questions above, but now being on the flip side of things I realize how important these questions truly are.  I want to walk you through these questions to help guide you in a direction that WILL help you achieve results, feel proud of the example you are setting and actually keep the results you achieve.

 

 

 

So as you navigate all of the different and overwhelming options out there, I want to make things feel less overwhelming for you.  One of the most simplest things you can do is start to look at the foods you eat and start to adapt a lifestyle that follows a clean eating principal.  Are you eating processed and packaged foods?  Are the labels on your foods things you can pronounce and recognize?  Are there artificial flavors, dyes or ingredients that are harmful to your health?  When I started to ask myself these questions and scan through the items in our pantry and fridge I realized we were not eating as healthy as I thought we were.  I started using an app on my phone called, FOODUCATE.  This allowed me and my children to scan labels on food and discover how healthy they truly were.  I started to focus on having a fridge full of fresh fruits, vegetables and rid all the sugary drinks and yogurts we had in the fridge.  The less temptations and unhealthy choices in this house, the easier it was for my family to make better choices.

 

For most of us we have eaten a certain way our entire lives, so changing our habits, what we keep in our fridge and pantry takes some time to getting use to.  I also read a couple books about Clean Eating by Tosca Reno to really understand what this term meant.  These books really helped me to start cleaning up our nutrition in our home.  We also stopped eating at chain restaurants, coffee shops for our frappuccinos, fast food restaurants and ordering takeout on a weekly basis, which allowed us to have more in our budget for healthy food options.  The clean eating principle is based off of an 80/20 rule, meaning you eat clean 80% of your week with a treat meal (20%)  once a week. So you are really putting your focus into fueling your body properly as much as possible.  You will notice at first this is really hard and that you may be very cranky as your body detoxes.  You will also notice the less sugar in your diet, the easier it is to avoid it. You start to listen more to your body and how it feels as you fule it with certain things.  I noticed I wasn’t having these highs and lows through my day, my children weren't either. After you learn to clean up your nutrition and learn to make this a lifestyle then you can start to navigate into other nutrition options from here.  Whether it’s incorporating a Vegan ,vegetarian, paleo or another healthy lifestyle you will start to recognize what is working best for your mind body and soul.  The more poor habits habits you replace with healthier ones, the easier this gets and the better you are going to start to feel.  You want to focus on creating a healthier lifestyle, not a short term diet.  This way you can keep the results you achieve long term.  

 

 

The next thing you need to ask yourself before you begin anything is, is this something I would want my children to do?  So if you are wrapping your body, taking diet pills, ingesting artificial ketones, starving yourself, binging or whatever the latest fad is, make sure you ask yourself these things:  

Would I want my children to know what I am doing?

Would I want my children doing this?

Would this be safe for my children to do?

 

 

 

If you are answering no to any of the above questions, they why would you want to do this to yourself?  Our actions will always speak louder than our words, so as parents we need to show, not tell our kids what they should be doing.  I have learned that do as I say not as I do, does not work.  I want my kids to fuel their minds along with their bodies properly than it is my job to show them how.  I ask my children things like: when you eat those ten oreo cookies do you feel satisfied or are you craving more?  Or  do you notice when you eat or drink those items you feel full of energy one minute and then ready for bed the next minute? Then I ask when they make healthier choices, how do you feel or how is you energy?  I also teach them when they are fueling their bodies with the right foods how their endurance and energy improves during games or practices. They are making that connection all on their own what foods are fuel and which ones are not.  Do my children still make poor nutrition choices?  Absolutely, they are teenagres so this is inevitable but they are learning healthier habits that they can carry into adulthood with them.  To me as a parent it means they will struggle less with the things I struggled with most of my life and have a better chance of beating the statistic of being the first generation that will not outlive their parents.

 

 

Now we move into the questions about products out on the market.  Is this safe to use and what are the long term effects.  There are so many gimmicks out there showing us how to can achieve the perfect body quickly, but there are not enough long term studies on these products to show what they are doing to our bodies.  So yes that’s great you can lose the weight quickly but what happens when you stop these gimmicks?  Well the weight all comes back on.  Anyone or anything promising you results as quick is possible, should be a HUGE red flag regarding your health.  No one can advocate for yourself better than yourself, so do you research and if you can’t find the answers you are looking for consult a holistic doctor or a doctor that has a background in nutrition.   If you do not feel comfortable asking one of these health professionals if what you are using is safe, then you already have your answer and should know better.

 

 

Lastly one of the questions I never asked myself was, will these results last?  I tried so many different things out on the market because when I wanted to lose weight I wanted it gone fast and was ready to change overnight.  It is great to find a product that helps you get results, but what good is it if you can’t do it for the rest of your life?  You don’t want to get results as quickly as you lose them, right? You also want to make sure that this isn’t just about how you look or that number on the scale or in your clothing labels.  You want to make sure you are getting healthier from the inside out.  How many times have we heard about the avid exerciser or runner that ended up in the hospital or worse died?  You hear people say I don’t understand they exercised all the time, they were healthy.  You can look healthy on the outside and be unhealthy on the inside.  You can never outwork poor nutrition and the internal side effects they provide. So this is key as you start your journey and important to remember that in order to get healthier, it’s from the inside-out. How many times in our life did we achieve the perfect number on the scale, yet we still lacked energy, didn’t feel well, suffered from highs or low or depression or anxiety and still didn’t feel our best?  This is what I don’t want to happen for you.  I want to help you learn how to create a healthier you from the inside out, because when you feel your best you look your best.

 

 

 

If you want to lose weight, feel better and improve your overall health then you are going to have to do the hard things.  You are going to have to learn how to fuel your body properly, learn how to change your lifestyle, learn to break poor habits, fuel your mind with what it deserves to hear and start to become more active.
