There is nothing like picking apples off the trees in New York this time of year. For some reason they always taste better to me & smell like Autumn. This year we made our way as a family to a local farm to pick several different types of apples. I know they say certain apples are great for making applesauce, but I love using all different types of apples in my applesauce instead of sticking to just one flavor. This applesauce recipe is so simple and so much healthier than what you can find on most shelves in our food stores, that you may just never have to buy applesauce again. The best part is there are no preservatives or added sugar!
So here are the three ingredients you will need:
After I wash the apples, I slice the apples up leaving the skin on. I pour 1/2 cup of water into my crockpot, then put the sliced apples in & then sprinkle the pumpkin pie spice all over the apples. I leave the crockpot on high for 6 hours & enjoy my home smelling like fresh crisp apples...honestly smelling better than any fall candle you could find. Oh it smells heavenly in my home right now. After you cook the apples for 6 hours you can mash the apples up with a potato masher if you like the applesauce chunky or you can stick the applesauce in your Vitamix for a smooth applesauce. This is a great snack for lunches, after school or a healthy little dessert. I hope your family enjoys this as much as mine does! XX
