Being Healthy Is More Important Than Being Skinny

July 8, 2015

I will be completely honest, when I first signed up as a Beachbody customer I wanted to be skinny.  I was tired of being overweight and I did not want to purchase a size 16 pants, because my size 14 no longer fit me.  I wanted to be skinny and to wear my size 6 clothing that had been waiting in bins for me to wear for 8 years.  I wanted to lose weight fast and drop sizes like it was nobodies business.  I signed up for a 60 day challenge group and guess what happened?  I lost the least amount of inches and pounds than anyone in my group and I quit.  Even though I started to feel a lot better internally, my outside didn't look much differently.  I was so frustrated, I worked out hard everyday...I mean I thought if I worked out that hard the weight would melt off of me.  I took two months off, ate pretty healthy and walked as much as I could.  During those two months I found myself feeling sluggish, not wanting to go anywhere and just plain miserable.  I wanted to be skinny, I thought if I could be a size 6, that was all I needed to be happy again.

During those two months, we went on a vacation to Florida with my family.  I remember wanting to crawl in whole, I was so uncomfortable.  I was constantly adjusting my clothing, because parts of me would be hanging out if I didn't.  I was embarrassed to be in a bathing suit, so swimming and playing with my children wasn't fun...it was completely uncomfortable, so I left that part to their dad.  I was so angry.  Just because I wasn't "skinny" it was ruining everything for me and moments that I would never get again with my family.  I know some people would say to me, who cares or you look great for having three kids.  It didn't matter, what mattered was I not only felt terrible in the inside, but incredibly uncomfortable about what I saw on the outside.  So I decided to contact my Beachbody coach and share with her how I was feeling.  She said forget the numbers, forget about being skinny and focus on being healthy.  She said you want this, then you have to make sure your nutrition is just as important as your workouts and that was something I did not make a priority in my first group. Most importantly she said, if you want this....truly want this....then you can never give up no matter what and no matter how long it takes...there is no finish line.

So I signed up again on March 3rd 2014 and have been going strong ever since. I am not at my goal, not even sure what that goal is, but I will know when I get there and I can tell you I am pretty darn close.  I know this not because of what the scale says or what the label in my clothes say.  It's because I feel amazing.  I feel healthy because I am healthy physically and mentally and you know that feels way better then I thought it would be then if I was a size 6 or skinny.  I do not need to be skinny or a size 6 to feel good and to realize that and say it and mean it...well that is mind blowing for me!

Now fast forward to now, I am a Beachbody coach.  I had this image in my head that in order to become a coach, I had to reach my goals.   I had to have this amazing body that everyone else would want...so I thought.  I am a Beachbody coach and I do not have a perfect body, I am a work in progress.  Being a coach has helped me immensely to reach my goals and holds me accountable every single day.  Why?  Because I have a ton of clients depending on me to show up everyday and what I expect from them on a daily basis is what I am showing up and doing on social media for the whole world to see.  Proving to everyone out there that anyone can do this, if you chose to not give up and even better you don't have to be skinny or a size 6 to feel good in your own skin.  That is not my goal now and never will be again, I just want to be a healthy strong mom setting a good example for her kids.  I want my own children to happy and comfortable in their own skin, but also realize how being healthy is more important then any number a scale or on a tag.  I want them to grow up with healthy expectations of their own bodies.  So yes through this process I have learned that being healthy is way more important than being skinny!  Forget being skinny as a goal, set the bar higher and focus on your health.  If you need support reaching your goals, let me help you.  It's old school, you must eat right, exercise and be patient.  With the support of a coach and the support of a challenge group you will get a healthier body and I can not wait for you to experience how good your body was designed to feel!
