The Secret To Getting Your Kids To Eat Healthy Foods
One question I get asked weekly is how do I get my kids to only eat healthy foods? There really isn't a secret and it's actually very simple...I only keep healthy food in our home.

The exception here is when we entertain or host sleepovers, then they are allowed junk food. The other thing I noticed is that when they are filling up on fresh foods, they aren't as moody or ravenous...neither am I. Sugary processed foods really had an affect on everyone in my household, especially my youngest who seemed to have a terrible temper. After cutting out all foods with Corn syrup due to his food allergy, this helped eliminate a lot of foods we were use to consuming. I was quickly discovering corn syrup was in everything. I really didn't start educating myself on healthy foods until 2 years ago. I also assumed if it was sold in the store, it was safe to eat...I mean this is America. I assumed our government and regulations on things we provide safe food for our families. The more I learned the more I realized this is not the case. It is up to us to help our children make healthy choices. We buy the food. We cook the food. We need to show them how to nourish their bodies properly. It starts with us. I use to buy Oreos, pop tarts, cheese doodles, Doritos, pop, ice cream and sugary cereals galore. Cereal was our number one snack. I baked brownies, chocolate chip crisco cookies, and made Rice Krispie treats like it was my job. We never went a night without dessert and that was probably the biggest struggle I had with my children. No dessert was so cruel, at least that was what I was being told. Now 1 1/2 years later, they don't even ask anymore...didn't take that long...lol. It's not easy making the switch with your family, but it is doable and completely worth it. The process can seem over whelming at first, but does get easier with time. Clean eating is doable and with the 80/20 rule it makes it easier to have this as our lifestyle, 80% of the time you eat clean, 20% you indulge. There is nothing I can't eat, I just chose not to eat it. I tell my children the same thing, letting them decide when we are out to eat or at a party. Sometimes they chose unhealthy items and other times they don't. I am realizing the more I leave it up to them, the better choices they seem to be making on their own...at least when I am in their presence.
