Why Do We Invest So Much Money In Things That Do Not Improve Our Well Being?

I am as guilty as the next person for spending way to much money on things that truly do nothing for my well being or my families well being. Most of us don't even think twice about having cable, internet or spending money on useless items. When I first contacted my coach and wanted to join the challenge group to lose weight, the only thing that stopped me from signing up right then and there was the cost. $205!!!! My first thought was, wow that is a lot of money and I told her that. I said let me talk to my husband first and then I will get back to you. I told my husband what I wanted to do and how much it would cost. I also told him if I was unhappy with anything, they guaranteed my money back within 30 days. The reason why I added that important part in, was because I had purchased many products and items in the past that still sat in the house half way used or not used at all. What a waste of money and I truly didn't want to waste any of our money. So being the amazing supportive husband I have he said: "well we spend just about that much on our cell phone, cable, internet bills-why not invest in your health and well being"? That really hit home for me. One I loved how supportive he was, but two-he was right. We spent a lot of money every month on items that did nothing for our health, happiness or well-being. So I told him I would not be buying anymore coffee from Starbucks, I would stop purchasing items from target just because they had a red sticker, and we would stop eating out so much. I knew those changes alone would help cover the cost of my challenge pack. You don't realize that a few bucks here and there truly add up fast. If you don't already pay attention to your spending habits, I challenge you to look at your account last month and see how much money you spent on items that do nothing for your health and well-being. So not only was the $205 the best investment I ever made for myself(please note this was a one time fee, not a monthly fee), but for my whole family. I also saved money, by getting off one medication and reducing another one. I saved more money when I stopped taking my multivitamin, because everything I need is in the Shakeology I drink. We use to get take out once a week and we ate out four times a month on average. Now we average eating out once a month. All these changes we have made to our lifestyle this past year have saved us so much more money, I truly didn't see the big picture. I didn't think investing that $205 would benefit us like it has this past year. I still spend just as much as I did before on groceries, but now it's on all fresh food-instead of packaged food. So even though the investment may seem like a lot at first, when your comparing it to the others things you spend money on and you realize the benefits this will have on your well-being and your families, then every penny becomes truly justified.
