How Can You Not Afford It?

I hear two objections all the time when it comes to joining a challenge group #1 money and #2 is time. When I first inquired about a challenge group and I found out the challenge pack I wanted was $180, my first thought was: that is way too much. I told my husband what I wanted to do and how much it would cost. I said it's probably too much money right? I will never forget what he said to me. He said you could never put a price on something that could help you get healthier and happier. We spend that much money on new cell phones, cell phones bills, two months of cable, on a night out, on concert tickets, on a new purse and his list went on. He said why wouldn't this be worth the money, when we think all those other things are worth the money? They do not help our health or create lasting happiness? He said if you want to do this, then I say do it. We will find a way to make it work. I was not only excited, but what he said to me hit home. Why did I think it was okay to spend all this money on things that didn't help my/our health? I started to figure out things I could cut out, that really did do nothing for my health and happiness. Sure something's I did provided happiness for a short period of time, but I wanted more. I stopped purchasing Starbucks every time I went to Target. I stopped buying things that were clearance or were on sale, I started just buying the things we needed. I called our cable company and asked how I could lower my cable bill (which I need to do again). I called Verizon and asked how I could lower our bill based on our current usage. We were going to be eating healthier, so we weren't spending money on fast food, take out or at chain restaurants anymore. We started to do more activities as a family that didn't cost a thing, like riding bikes on the canal, playing tennis at the school, kickball games in the backyard, and renting movies verses spending the $50 to see one. All these changes not only helped me be able to afford my monthly Shakeology, but we are saving so much more money now by making all these changes. My husband was right, You can not put a price on your health and happiness. Think about all the future doctor visits you could be saving yourself, by living a healthier lifestyle. I went from an average five doctor visits a year, to one this past year for sickness. That is a HUGE savings. So before you say no, think about why your health and happiness should trump most of the things you are currently spending money on.
