I Can't Afford To Be Healthy

I can't afford to be healthy is something I hear a lot. In this day and age, how can any of us afford not to be healthy? I can't afford healthy foods, I can't afford to workout, I can't afford to drink Shakeology and the list goes on. Why is it that millions of Americans claim to not be able to afford to take good care of their health? WHY ISN'T OUR HEALTH #1? We pay well over $100 on cell phones and cell phone bills, over $75 on cable, over a $200 designer bag on their shoulder, daily coffee outings, filling our carts up with useless red tagged target items and all the other useless ways we are spending money can add up very quickly. Why do we feel it is okay to spend a lot of our money on things that do nothing for us? Americans are constantly spending money on things they do not need and things that are not good for our health. How do we stop this trend? We simply end the trend starting with ourselves.

I want you to really think about this. If you had an illness, from not taking care of your health-could you afford an illness? When your very sick you don't always get paid for missing work, you may need prescriptions, you may need surgery, you may need to hire help or a nurse and the hospital bills add up fast with or without insurance. Can eating right and exercising prevent every illness? Unfortunately they can not prevent them all, but they can prevent such diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, obesity, osteoporosis and certain cancers. Maintaining your health will prevent loss of muscle strength, bone mass and vitamin deficiency. Eating healthy and exercising can also help to control or treat chronic diseases and conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, sleep apnea and celiac disease.

How many of us are lacking energy all the time, suffering from headaches, are moody and just feel sick most of the time? The answer to this is: a lot of us. We are feeling this way because we are not fueling our bodies the proper way and we are not getting in nearly enough exercise as our body needs. How do you stop feeling this way and can it happen overnight? There is not a quick fix, nor a magic pill. It is just good old fashion eating healthy foods (that your great grandmother would have eaten growing up) and getting more active. After a few weeks of eating clean, getting more active and making sure you consume enough vitamins & nutrients into your body- you will start to feel a lot better. You will start to have more energy, not feel sick so much, not have so many headaches, have better looking skin and just really start to feel better in your own skin.

Next time you think you can't afford to be healthy, consider things your already spending money on. What can you cut out? What do you spend your money on that you don't need? How to start making changes now, that cost you nothing more than your spending now:

Replace: cookies, donuts, ice cream, candy with fruits, veggies, snack items that are not processed

Replace: Packaged baked goods with homemade baked goods with natural ingredients

Replace: Parking close to the store or taking the elevator/escalator with Parking in the farthest spot and taking the stairs

Replace: All juices and sodas with water. Flavor your water with fruit slices.

Borrow a workout dvd from a friend or the library and create your own gym space by moving your coffee table. Go outside and get walking. If it's too cold, walk the mall several times.
