Working Out At Home Doesn't Work?

I have heard it so many times, working out from home doesn't work. I am proof it does work and so are the thousands of other people that are doing the same thing. I have had the gym memberships and yoga memberships in the past. I loved going to classes and working out when I could. When taking the yoga classes it took me 25 minutes there and back, so that's 50 minutes driving time. Even going to the Gym 10 minutes away, was difficult to fit in and then you have to shower there-yuck. Then your waiting for equipment and cleaning it because your not sure how good it was really wiped down. The difficult part is when you are a parent or a busy professional it's hard getting or fitting in that block of time. Then what happens when the only time you can work out they don't offer child care or you can't fit their class schedule into yours or your child is sick and you can't leave your home? By working out at home, I cannot use any of those excuses. I need 30 minutes. I don't have to drive anywhere, I don't have to wait in any lines or try to fit a scheduled class into my schedule, and I don't have to worry about childcare. Even when my children are home sick, I can plant them on the couch next to me and workout. There are a couple other added benefits, besides not having to cleanup someone else's sweat from the mat or equipment. Unfortunately after having three kids, my bladder just isn't as strong as it use to be and it was embarrassing leaving in the middle of a class to use the restroom (especially if jumping was involved). At home, I just pause my workout, I don't miss anything and run upstairs to use my nice clean bathroom. Another bonus is when I have a busy day and can't fit it in, I can wake up 30 minutes early and get it done. I run upstairs, shower and get ready at home. Another added benefit is my sneakers always look brand new.

Lastly and most importantly when you join a challenge group, you are checking in everyday and rating your workout. The group and your coach are holding you accountable. There is not anyone doing that for you in the gym and let's face it-it's hard to find a partner that will be there for you everyday. Working out in the gym and taking classes on a regular basis is great and I commend everyone that can do that, it's just for the average person finding the time, having the motivation or finding someone to hold you accountable while doing those activities is nearly impossible. Everyone seems gun hoe once January 1st hits, but that quickly ends comes March and why is that? This year do something different. Do something that works and last. Let 2015 be your year!
