When I first heard about clean eating I had no idea what it was. I stumbled upon it while researching foods for my son who had just been diagnosed with food allergies. I started to realize what clean eating was and how I was going to feed my son, but the more I researched the more I realized this is how my whole family should be eating. I was stunned that so many items in my pantry that I truly thought were healthy or not that bad-were bad. I also use to eat all weight watcher products, which I quickly learned were not going to be allowed anymore. A lot of people ask me can I eat anything good and I am happy to report-yes I eat amazing foods. I have found healthy ways to make all the foods we enjoy like pizza, pastas, tacos, chili and quesadillas. I have learned how to make healthy cookies and desserts that actually taste amazing. It took time to adapt to this lifestyle. At first grocery shopping was difficult and took time, but after a few trips things became clearer and easier. I share in my challenge groups how to make grocery shopping less of a challenge and recipes to make your favorite foods healthy. Although I must admit my children miss their Oreos and Doritos, they have also learned why we no longer eat them. I tell them if your at a friends house and you would like them have them-then go ahead, but what they are noticing is how terrible they are feeling when eating these items. They are learning habits that I am hoping carry on into adulthood and taking away the struggles I have had with food. Clean eating has taught me how to nourish my body, listen to my body and not use junk food as an emotional filler. The best part is the 80/20 rule. I can go out to dinner, enjoy anything I want too, but my choices I do make these days when at a party or out, have improved tremendously. My thought process with diets in the past was "I am on a diet I can't eat it" to "I can eat that, I just am choosing not too". We don't miss fast food, we enjoy cooking and prepping food together and all five of us feel better. This is not something that is short term, this has been a lifestyle change. Take it from me a complete foodie, this works. This is something I can stick to for the rest of my life and it feels amazing to finally find what works.
