What Can Meal Prepping Do For You?

What is all this talk about meal planning? Most of us lead busy lives and some nights we can get a home cooked meal on the table and other nights there is just not enough time. Some nights you have a dinner planned to cook, then things come up and before you know its 6pm-everyone is starving and fast food just seems like the quickest and only option. This is where meal prepping/planning comes in handy. The easiest days to do this is a Saturday or Sunday. You definitely need to set aside at least 2 hours. This is when you will bake large amounts of chicken, fish or any other meats. Prep crock pot meals into a freezer bag, make mason-jar salads or steel cut oatmeal in jars. You will want to slice all your veggies and then put them into containers/baggies. Wash and cut all your fruit as well. Then when your finished your fridge will be stocked with healthy options for the week. Freeing up so much time you really don't have on those weeknights. At first this will seem time consuming, planning all your meals and then shopping for it all. Then the prepping, but after a few weeks you will become a pro. I get my children involved and our food prepping is something we all do together. The best thing is the kids seem more open to trying new things, because they helped create the meal. Once you incorporate this into your life, it is so much easier to make healthy choices for meals and snacks for the whole family.
